Religion Test Thursday

This Thursday we will take our first Religion Test.  The students have copied the notes into their Religion notebooks to study.  I have also placed the notes on the Blog, under the notes/outlines tab.  Also, I have placed the test questions on Study Stacks, which you can access under the same tab as the notes.  Please have your student try Study Stacks.  There are flashcards, games, quizzes, and test that your student can use to prepare for the test. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me.  I will also go over all of this Wednesday night at the PTC Info Night.  I hope to see you there. Happy Studying!

Welcome Back

Hello and welcome back to another exciting year at St. Philip School!   We had a great 1st day and are gearing up to begin our journey together.  Today we worked on remembering our addition/subtraction math facts.  Please have your child practice these nightly.  Soon they will need to start studying multiplication/division facts.  Practice Practice Practice
This year, we will be studying Kentucky History and taking a trip to Frankfort in the Spring.
We will also be attending the Taft Theater for the children's performances.  So look for a sign up sheet coming home soon.

Parents:  If your child is new to my class, please  attend the parent info night next Wednesday, August 23rd at 7pm.  It is very important to be on the same page to insure the success of our students.

Derby Hats

Dear Parents,
Every other year, the 3rd and 4th grade learn about Kentucky History.  One of the lessons that I like to share with the class is about the Kentucky Derby.  We are currently on the off year, however, I promised the class that I would do the activity this year.

Step 1:  I will assign each student a horse that will be running in the Derby.  As you may know, this list can change up to the day of the derby, so your student’s horse may not remain the same throughout this project.  I will award the “owners” of the top 3 horses on Monday after the race.

Step 2:  Each student will design a derby hat.  They can be as creative as they want.  We will wear the hats the Friday before Derby Day (May 5th).    I will ask the other teachers to judge the hats and we will have winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.  Please do not buy a Derby Hat (which can be expensive).  Instead, find a hat and decorate it as the student wants. Students in the past used flowers, ribbons, horse cut outs or small figures, horseshoes, and other items made out of foam or paper and glued them to a hat.  Have fun and be creative!

Any other activity will take place in the classroom.  If you have any questions please email me.

Happy creating!

Check out our newest projects!
We are enjoying the use of our class iPads and the apps that make learning even more interactive.

As a culminating activity in Literature, the 4th grade each drew a picture and wrote a summary about one of the main characters from The Family Under the Bridge.

For MLK Day, the 3rd and 4th teamed up with the 5th and 6th and created stamps or coins about Martin Luther King Jr.
