Advent Pals

During the season of Advent, we have been trying to do random acts of kindness for our Advent pals as well as for others. Next Wednesday we will celebrate our kindness with a class Christmas party. Each student is asked to make, bake, or purchase a gift for their Advent pal. If you are purchasing a gift, please do not spend more than $5. Wrap the gift and ONLY put the Advent pal's name on the gift.
Have a Blessed Advent and Merry Christmas.

Dress Code

Just a reminder that on Monday students are NOT permitted to wear shorts. We have entered the fall season and long pants or the girls' jumpers are required. Girls are allowed to wear leggings however, they need to be SOLID navy, white, or gray. Also, please check your child's socks. The handbook states: White, red or navy blue socks must be worn above the shoe without exception. SOCKS MUST BE VISIBLE. I have seen all colors of socks including neon with designs and have also have failed to see socks on a child. Also with the cooler temperatures make sure your child has the correct sweatshirt - NO HOODIES, and/or sweater - pullover or cardigan of solid gray, red, white, or navy blue. If the student doesn't wear the uniform sweater or sweatshirt they have to leave it with their backpacks and I do not want anyone being cold in the classroom. Please check before your child comes to school and stress the dress code with them.
Thank you.

I have entered the grades that I have so far for all subjects and students. Don't panic if you don't see a score. This is because I had NOT received the work yet and will update after I grade it. Also, some subjects didn't contain a lot of assignments as others, we are getting there and I will post again in about a week.
If you are having problems accessing your grades - you can enter your email address and Engrade will help you. The user name and password is the same as the one you made up last year, therefore I do not know it.

Friday, August 26, 2011

Monday, August 22, 2011

More Info.

2 new things:
1. Calendar - If you click on the event for a day a description box will pop up giving you more information about that event.

2. Spelling - we have a new spelling series this year and I am trying something new. Each student was given a pretest last Friday and based on this pretest I have assigned spelling words that are individual to each student. So if you call a friend for the spelling words, they may not have ALL of the words that were assigned to you. Also, not all of the words assigned came directly from the textbook, some came from the teacher resources. So the students have been instructed NOT to lose their list. I suggested that they write their words in their planners every Monday night for practice and safe keeping.

All Spelling words cover the same spelling skill for that week. For example, 4th graders are focusing on short vowels this week so all word list have short vowel words on it.

AS always, if you have any questions please contact me.

Just a reminder to bring gym clothes and your library book!

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Supply List

The following is the supply list for 3rd and 4th Grade:

pencils * can be wooden or mechanical - if mechanical please supply lead refills
erasers *
crayons * 24 pack is big enough
colored pencils * Crayola tend to work the best. Rose Art tend to splinter when sharpened
1 box of skinny markers
1 box of regular markers
2 glue sticks *
2 dry erase markers *
1 red pen
1 pencil bag or box - please no magnetic pencil holder - they tend to get knocked off of the desk quite frequently
2 wide ruled notebooks *
2 folders *
1 highlighter
1 3-ring binder - no bigger than 1 inch
2 boxes of Kleenex * we tend to need more right after Christmas
Clorox wipes are always needed - if you find a good deal we would greatly appreciate them

4th Grade
need blue or black eraserable pens * these tend to be more difficult to find after the school sales.

**** The items starred are the items that we tend to run out of very quickly. Therefore, you may want to stock up while the prices are right. Sometimes the folders and notebooks can become very tattered and worn, even ripped and will need to be replaced usually around Christmas time. Pencils and erasers go quickly and may need to be replaced weekly or monthly.

Thank you and see you soon!

Poem that I would love to share with you.

Author Unknown

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day

Seeing a little one out at play

"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile

"Mine to keep a little while

To bathe his hands and comb his hair

To tell him what he is to wear

To prepare him that he may always be good

And each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again

As the door opened and someone came in

"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile

"Mine, to keep just for a little while

To teach him how to be gentle and kind

To train and direct his dear little mind

To help him live by every rule

And get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once more

Just as the little one entered the door

"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled

And each took the hand of the little child

"Ours to love and train together

Ours this blessed task forever."

Last Day of School

I just wanted to jot down a little note telling everyone that this year was fantastic. I hope each of you have learned a lot and continue to learn throughout the summer. Don't forget the challenge I gave each of you - Be a peacemaker!!!

Have a safe and relaxing summer!

Monday, May 23, 2011

We have been studying the Rock Cycle and the 3 types of rock. In our discussions on igneous rocks we learned that they form from molten magma or lava. The students have been wanting to make volcanoes all year. This is the perfect opportunity to make them. However, I realize we are at the end of our time together, but the students weren't worried. Therefore, the only item I need the students to provide is clay. If the students can have clay by Wednesday that would be perfect!!!!
As always, thank you so much for your support.
