Advent Pals

You probably are already aware that we have chosen our Advent Pals.  The students have been asked to do kind deeds for their pal and each other.  They have also been asked to pray for their pal.  We also will be making a few items for each other.

Week 1:  Advent Pal Acrostic.  Students are to write an acrostic poem for their Advent pal.  They are to write or type their advent pal's name on a paper and for each letter in their name, they are to write a short phrase describing that person.  Example:  TOM  Talks to me as a friend, Outstanding at math, Makes me laugh when I'm sad.

Week 2:  Advent Pal Blessing.  I will be sending home an index card for each student to design a blessing/card for their pal.  We will talk about the types of blessings they can write.  Example:  I bless you with good health and a loving family this Advent.

Week 3:  Advent Pal Gift.  This can be homemade or store bought.  Please do not spend more than $5 on your Pal.  The focus isn't on "big" gifts, but the gift of giving.  We will exchange gifts on Friday the 19th at our Advent party.  More info will be sent later.

New Website

I have added a new website that we are using at school to study our math facts among other subjects.  The students are more than welcome to use this site at home.  I will be looking at what they are working on and can generate reports for each subject.  Therefore, if they use the site, make sure they are trying their best.

The students can search by typing in our school (st philip) or the code (ky1885).  Their username and password is the same as if they were logging into the computers at school.

Hopefully, this will be another site that motivates our students to learn those math facts!

The Little Things in Life

I just wanted to let you all know that I am back in the classroom until noon this week.  I am so grateful to finally be teaching again.  I have missed my now 4th graders and look forward to getting to know my 3rd graders.  Just being back makes me smile.  The students are a great group and I can't wait to spend my days with them.

I have placed the notes for this week's Religion Test on Study Stacks.  Please take the time to check out the link.  You can find it under the Notes/Outlines tab.

Religion Chapter 1

I hear the first week of school was a success!  Sister says that the students are wonderful and hard workers.  I'm glad to hear they are eager to learn and settling into school with ease.

I have updated the Religion notes if you are in need of them.  I have also put the questions on Study Stacks, listed under 3Religion Ch 1.  If you are unfamiliar with Study Stacks it is a great tool to help the students study their notes.  They can play games and also take quizzes and test on the material.  You can find a link to my Study Stacks under the Notes/Outlines Tab.  Just click on the link and find the title, 3Religion Ch 1 at the bottom of the page.  Happy Studying!

Welcome Back!

School is quickly approaching! I hope each of you are excited to begin a new year. I am excited to see some familiar faces and meet new ones. I am happy to announce 2 new faces to our school and classroom this year. We will have 2 new friends in the 3rd grade. I hope you all help me in welcoming Noah and Jordyn. I know they will both be a great addition to our school and class family. If you are looking for the supply list it has been posted on the school's website. Don't forget that school starts at 8:05am this year. On another note, as many of you know, I have been battling breast cancer since February. I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday, August 7th. Therefore, I will not be starting the year in the classroom. My hope is to be back shortly after Labor Day. I have everything ready to go in the classroom and have left our children in very capable hands. I am pleased to inform you that Sr. Dolores has agreed to take the class until I am able to return. I will try my best to place notes on the Blog. However, I will not be able to post homework assignments until I return. As always, thank you so much for your prayers and support. I am eager to put all this behind me and return to the place I love.

FYI

Religion notes have been placed in Study Stacks for your studying pleasure.  Test is on Thursday.

Valentine's Day - the students will have a chance to pass out Valentine's and treats if they wish.  We will be doing this around 1:30 on Friday.  We will not do anything "big."  If the students want to just have their name on the cards, then they don't have to worry about who gets what (unless they want to). We will not be making any card bags or boxes to place their Valentine's in.  So if your student likes these things, they may make it at home and bring it to school with them on Friday.

Don't forget that we WILL be in school next Monday.  Also next Wednesday starts a busy but exciting time as our annual basketball tournament gets started.  Check the schedule and come cheer on our favorite students to a victory.

Week of January 20th

Just an FYI
I will not be at school this week.  I have the opportunity to attend the March for Life in Washington DC with my oldest daughter and Newport Central Catholic.  I am very excited and eager to attend.
I have left our students in good hands.  Their routine will not be interrupted as I have planned everything out.  My substitute is Mrs. Carol Smith.  She has 18 years of teaching experience, 9 of those with St. Henry Grade School and 8 with St. Joe's Cold Spring.  Therefore, I am confident that the week will go on without a hitch.  Please say a prayer for everyone making the journey this week.  Thank you in advance.
