I can't believe that Advent time is upon us!
Today we received our Advent Pals. Each student has been given a name of another person in the classroom. They are to try their best and keep this person a secret. Each week we will be doing something kind for our Advent pal. The students are welcome to do extra each week if they choose. Sometimes students will give little homemade items or slip a candy cane or piece of candy into their pal's desk. Students will be doing these things at home, so they can disguise their handwriting and truly be secretive.
Week 1: A Blessing. A little note blessing their pal with something this Advent season.
Examples: I bless you with . . . . .
kindness and good health.
the love of friends and family.
happiness and cheer.
Week 2: Acrostic - take pal's first name and write vertically. Next to each letter write a short phrase about that person (remember to be kine).
Example: Totally fun person Interested in sports My friend who cares
Week 3: Advent card - Not Christmas
Week 4: Advent gift - no more than $5 or can be homemade. Send the gift in wrapped and with the pal's name on it. Do not put who it is from.
Remember Advent is the season to prepare for the birth of Jesus. Let's prepare together in our random acts of kindness towards each other.
Tomorrow, September 21 is our field trip to the Campbell County Environmental Center. Students will need to pack a lunch and drink. Students can pack all disposable items or they may use a lunch bag/ice pack if they want. We will be eating close to our cars so it will be easy enough to return any item.
Well, August is behind us and we are falling back into a good rhythm.
A couple of reminders:
1. Don't forget your Solar System kit was due today. Please try to find a kit or order on line. Walmart has been limited. Students have ordered on-line or found one in the stores.

I have scheduled the 3rd and 4th grade class for the Fall Environmental Day Camp at the Campbell County Environmental Education Center (1261 Race Track Road, Alexandria KY 41001) located at A.J. Jolly Park. The camp will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end around 1 p.m. Students will rotate through four learning stations each lasting 30 minutes. The learning stations are titled: 1) Reptiles, 2) Solar Energy, 3) Weathering and Erosion, 4) Plants.
We are schedule to attend on Wednesday, September 21. I am in need of a few chaperones who are willing to transport, supervise, and enjoy the day with us. I have attend this in the past and the students have enjoyed the day and the lessons.
Please respond by September 6th if you are able to drive. This is a free field trip.
So far so good!
We have begun our first full week of school. The students are settling in and getting the routine down.
This week we will have a Religion test on Thursday. Students need to study their notes or use Study Stacks.
We will also be having our first Science Test on Friday. Students need to study their outlines and vocabulary in their notebook. This will also be on Study Stacks.
Hello and welcome back to another exciting school year!
It's great being back.
In Science we are beginning with Earth and Technology. I spoke to the students about making a model of the Solar System. I need each student to bring in a Solar System Kit if possible. In the past we have found these at Walmart and Michaels. Usually we paint them, however I know some are already painted. Either kit works! The picture is the kit that will be perfect. On Walmart's website it is $8.37. I also found this kit on line at Michaels for a little bit more.
Due Date: Tuesday after Labor Day 9/6/16
If you have any question let me know!
Thanks so much.
Permission slips and money were due today. If you have not sent yours in, please do so ASAP. Students who have parents attending do NOT need to send in supper money. However, they do need $4 for the museums/capitol/Slato Center.
Please pack a lunch and drink.
Lunch needs to be disposable. No containers.
Drink can be water or juice. No soft drinks.
Students are to wear their school uniforms. May wear a jacket but student is responsible for it.
Women in History Project
The students will be doing the research at school. They are to use the information that they found and create one of the following:
1. Create a shoebox diorama representing the woman.
2. Create a poster representing the woman.
3. Create an illustrated/informative timeline of the woman’s life. Can use a poster board or sentence strips.
4. Create a shoebox float representing the woman.
Students may be as creative as they want to be.
I also informed them that I have certain supplies that I will be happy to share.
The project is due March 22.
